Announcing over $150,000 in prize money for Schools to make environmentally sustainable improvements to their facilities.
The Challenge is a knockout style team competition for Primary and Secondary students using the Footprints® Board Game. Footprints® has been endorsed by ASTA (Australian Science Teachers Association) and teaches students about environmental issues, covering topics such as FAUNA, FLORA, WATER, RECYCLING and ENERGY. It also provides valuable lessons on CARBON FOOTPRINTS and how we can all reduce them.
The Challenge is free to enter, runs in two categories (Primary & Secondary) and is conducted in 4 stages, School, Zone and State heats leading to the NATIONAL FINAL in Canberra.

Canvas for Change Oxfam Australia
Oxfam Australia invites you to create an artwork that tells the climate change story for vulnerable communities in developing countries. The canvas could represent the climate change impacts faced by these communities, tell the story of them adapting to climate change or look at opportunities and possibilities for the future. People all over the world are taking part in this international project. Details here
19th International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), together with its partners, the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer and Nikon Corporation, are pleased to announce the 18th International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment, which was launched on 20 August 2009. The organisers are inviting children all over the world to submit their paintings to the UNEP office in their regions.

1.Tasmanian Science Talent Search: Research Investigations and Science Games: Due 14 Oct, ’09
Target group:Students from Early Childhood to Senior Secondary
Process:
Research:Students (individually or as part of a small group (max 3) or a whole class Primary group) undertake a research investigation and write up findings as a report. Report is submitted to the TSTS Director (Margaret Hosford) by Oct 14th.
Science Game: Students (1-3) make a game (board game, card game, etc), write playing instructions, describe the science principle upon which game is based, place all pieces in box (no bigger than A4 reflex box) and send to the Director.

Entries can be delivered to Cosgrave High School, 286 Main Road, Glenorchy (attn: Rob Thomas)
Entries can be delivered to Launceston Church Grammar School, Button Street, Mowbray Heights, Launceston (attn: Marg Hosford)
Entries can be sent via Redline coach to 454 Windermere Road, Winderemere 7252Entries can be sent by mail to: TSTS P.O. Box 3053, Launceston Delivery Centre, Canning Street, Launceston.
Added bonus: Research projects that are eligible and deemed to be of high quality in the Tasmanian Science Talent Search will be forwarded to the National BHP Billiton Student Awards

2. The 60 Second Science Challenge - Australian Science Video Competition. Register by 30 Sept, Due 30 Oct, ‘09 Students in all Australian schools are invited to conduct an experiment or test a scientific theory, film it, edit it down to 60 seconds and submit it into the 2009 Science Video Competition. $8000 in PRIZES! Process: 1. Students register an interest in entering by Sept 30th. Sustainable Living Challenge: Teachers and Students What is it: The Sustainable Living Challenge is a national secondary schools program that encourages students and thei teachers to explore sustainability issues as a part of the school experience. Task: The emphasis for the entry is on student learning outcomes. Both students and teachers can complete an online project submission form whereupon they will be given a username and password. All projects must be submitted online, using the username and password by 30 October, 2009. Prizes: Certificates and gift packs containing sustainable living merchandise. 4. The Stockholm Junior Water Prize: Entries due 10 Dec 2009.
What is it: The Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) is a very prestigious youth award for a water-related science project at the high school level. The prize taps into the unlimited potential of today’s youth as they seek to address our water challenges. Created in 1997 by the Stockholm Water Foundation, the prize was established to mirror the adult Stockholm Water Prize. The Stockholm International Water Institute facilitates the international competition in Sweden and it will be contested by approximately 30 national winners in August 2010.
How to enter: Students submit research investigations on the topic of WATER to the Australian Water Association by 10 Dec, ’09. Three finalists will compete for the chance to represent Australia in Sweden. Winner will be announced in March, 2010.
