At School: Practical ways in which your school can make a difference

Investigate joining the Australian Youth Climate Coalition. Visit their website here or see a powerpoint of their mission here.
Insulate buildings, change appliances, and switch off unnecessary or resting appliances. Switch off your computers at the end of each day.
Redesign your buildings to better use sunlight, shade and air flows.
Use energy saving architectural designs for new buildings.
Ensure your buildings radiate less heat.
Plant trees. Save forests. Support carbon sequestration technology.
Ensure you buy your energy from renewable energy suppliers or generate your own.
Use solar heating of water, and solar power generation.
Own your own wind turbine, or share the ownership of one.
Consider other renewable energy sources.
Use bio-fuels or natural gas in the short term.
Apply for a Solar Schools Grant through My Green School

Use water sparing technology to reduce water use. Save your roof water in tanks for later use. Use drought tolerant plants and grasses. Visit the Waterwise website and become a waterwise school.
Recycle paper, Aluminium and other metals etc – Use this to raise money for other energy saving projects.
Use you inventive minds to come up with ideas and develop solutions to save energy and water within the school and outside.
Start a school garden – Learn to grow your own food. Raise money with the produce.
Take your message to the community and get them involved. How can you and your school make a difference in your community to help combat and adapt to climate change? Ask for help. Will business sponsor your project?
Present your plans and apply for a company sponsored grant (None currently available through this site, but why not ask your local businesses?)
Ensure your efforts are recognized and publicised.
